COVID-19 IN DOMINICA | DON’T OPEN OUTSIDE TOO EARLY!

DON'T OPEN OUTSIDE TOO EARLY!

As much as I want to be outside and living my best life ESPECIALLY on the weekends, I am still skeptical about if we should ‘open outside’ so soon.

There are only three CONFIRMED ACTIVE cases of COVID-19 in Dominica. While I am happy that we are lowering the number of active cases, I am still concerned that we might celebrate too early!

HEAR ME OUT FOR A SECOND:

Even if all our COVID-19 cases recover, WE STILL NEED TO BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS. I hope we do not forget that there are still persons who might be asymptomatic (they are just carrying &/or spreading the virus without showing any signs or symptoms). In fact, I am already seeing people becoming complacent and not practicing the precautionary measures put in place to prevent the virus. Why did this person come directly in my face to speak to me? Why did that lady just try to hug me?

In my opinion, we will never really know when the coast is clear, but I am not sure that we should lift the lock-down measures or open our borders in Dominica any time soon. Before we lift the lock-down completely and remove the curfew, we need to make sure that there is a strategy in place which will minimize the risk of further infection a second time around. At this point, the most we can do is continue social distancing and GRADUALLY remove a few elements of the lock-down measures (which I think the Government is currently doing).

What do you think?
